proximity sensors
Detect objects without contact
Proximity sensors are devices that detect the presence or position of nearby objects without physical contact.
They're used in touchscreens to disable the display when a phone is held to your ear, in cars for parking assistance, and in industrial equipment to monitor machine positions.
Different types use infrared light, electromagnetic fields, or ultrasound to sense objects within range.
