prom committee
Formal dance organizers
A prom committee is the group of students responsible for planning and organizing their school's prom—handling decorations, themes, venues, and logistics.
Membership often involves both social prestige and tedious work: She joined the prom committee to have a say in the theme.
The phrase sometimes appears as shorthand for high school social hierarchies and popularity dynamics.
