profit à prendre

Land yield privilege

Profit à prendre is a legal right to take something from another person's land—timber, minerals, fish, game, or crops.

Unlike an easement, which only grants passage or use, a profit à prendre allows removal of resources: The deed included a profit à prendre for harvesting timber from the adjacent woodland.

The term comes from Norman French, meaning "profit to be taken."
