Priority inbox is an email feature that automatically sorts messages by importance, separating what the system judges urgent or relevant from less critical mail.
Gmail popularized the term in 2010, using algorithms to learn which senders and subjects matter most to each user.
The concept has spread to other platforms: I missed your message because it didn't make it to my priority inbox.
