preview nights
Before opening performances
Preview nights are performances of a theatrical production held before the official opening night, allowing the cast and crew to refine the show before critics attend.
Ticket prices are often reduced, and audiences understand they're seeing a work still being polished: We got cheap seats for preview nights.
The term extends to advance screenings of films or special early-access retail events.
