praying shawls
Ritual shoulder coverings
Praying shawls are garments worn during religious worship, most commonly the Jewish tallit—a fringed rectangular cloth draped over the shoulders during prayer.
The term also applies to shawls knitted or crocheted by church groups and given to those facing illness or hardship, intended to convey comfort and spiritual support: The congregation made praying shawls for hospital patients.
