prank calling
Telephonic juvenile harassment
Prank calling is telephoning someone to deceive, annoy, or amuse—often a stranger—with no intention of genuine communication.
Classic pranks include asking if someone's refrigerator is running or requesting a fictional person: Is Amanda Hugginkiss there?
The practice declined as caller ID became standard.
