emergency call
Plea for help
An emergency call is a phone call to summon urgent help—police, fire department, or ambulance.
Most countries designate a short number for this purpose: 911 in the United States, 999 in the United Kingdom, 112 across Europe.
The term also applies to any urgent summons: The doctor received an emergency call in the middle of the night.
