Power-tripping describes someone who abuses authority or revels in exercising control over others.
The term implies the person derives pleasure from their power rather than using it responsibly: The security guard was power-tripping, making everyone empty their bags twice.
Often used of petty officials, managers, or anyone who lets small authority go to their head.
