poverty mindset

Belief in limitation

A poverty mindset is a set of beliefs and attitudes shaped by scarcity—the conviction that resources are permanently limited and that financial security is unattainable.

Someone with a poverty mindset might avoid risks, hoard small amounts, or feel undeserving of wealth.

The term appears in self-help and financial advice contexts, sometimes critically: Calling it a "poverty mindset" ignores the real barriers people face.

The flip side is often called an abundance mindset.
