possessive form
Grammar's ownership marker
The possessive form shows ownership or association, typically created by adding an apostrophe and s to nouns: the dog's collar, James's car.
Pronouns have distinct possessive forms without apostrophes: my, your, his, her, its, our, their.
The possessive can indicate relationships beyond ownership: the city's mayor, a moment's notice, the book's theme.
