points of sale
Where transactions happen
Points of sale are the locations or moments where retail transactions occur—where customers pay for goods or services.
The term often refers to the computerized systems that process these transactions: cash registers, card readers, and the software that tracks inventory and sales data.
A convenience store checkout counter is a point of sale; so is the tablet a food truck vendor uses to swipe your card.
Retailers and marketers also use the phrase to describe the physical space where purchasing decisions happen: point-of-sale displays, point-of-sale advertising.
