playing card suits

Hearts, diamonds, clubs, spades

Playing card suits are the four categories that divide a standard deck: clubs, diamonds, hearts, and spades.

Each suit contains thirteen cards from ace through king.

In many games, suits establish hierarchy or determine trump.

The red suits are hearts and diamonds; the black suits are clubs and spades.

Bridge players memorize suit rank: Spades are highest, then hearts, diamonds, clubs.
