Initial course chosen
Plan A is the primary strategy or first choice of action, as opposed to backup options.
The phrase exists mainly in contrast to plan B: Plan A is to drive, but if the car breaks down, we'll take the bus.
When someone says there is no plan B, they mean plan A must succeed.
