plagues of Egypt
Moses's divine warnings
The plagues of Egypt are the ten catastrophes God inflicted on Egypt in the biblical Book of Exodus to compel Pharaoh to free the Israelites from slavery—blood, frogs, gnats, flies, livestock disease, boils, hail, locusts, darkness, and death of firstborn children.
The phrase often appears in exaggerated complaints: My apartment has suffered the plagues of Egypt this year—first mice, then roaches, now bedbugs.
