pituitary glands
Brain's hormone headquarters
Pituitary glands is the plural of pituitary gland, a pea-sized organ at the base of the brain that secretes hormones regulating growth, metabolism, and other bodily functions.
Often called the "master gland" because it controls other hormone-producing glands.
Most contexts use the singular, since humans have only one: The tumor was pressing on her pituitary gland.
