pitch out

Toss it out

A pitch out is a deliberate ball thrown wide of the plate in baseball, allowing the catcher to quickly throw to a base to catch a runner stealing.

In football, it's a lateral toss to a running back: He took the pitch out and ran for fifteen yards.

The baseball term is often written as one word: pitchout.
