physical sales
In-person retail purchases
Physical sales are transactions involving tangible goods that customers can touch, handle, or take home—as opposed to digital downloads, streaming services, or other intangible products.
The term appears most often in music and publishing, where it distinguishes CDs, vinyl records, and printed books from their digital counterparts: Physical sales have declined as streaming dominates the market.
It can also refer to in-store purchases versus online transactions.
