perimeter road
Edge-hugging route
A perimeter road runs along the outer boundary of an area—an airport, military base, campus, or gated community.
It typically forms a loop or circuit that traces the edge: Security vehicles patrol the perimeter road.
The term emphasizes the road's position at the margins rather than cutting through the interior.
