peals

Loud ringing bursts

Peals are loud, prolonged sounds—especially of bells ringing or thunder rolling: peals of thunder, peals of laughter.

A peal of bells is also a specific sequence rung in change-ringing.

As a verb, to peal is to ring out loudly: Church bells pealed across the valley.
