patronizer
Acts smugly superior
A patronizer is someone who treats others condescendingly, as if they were inferior or less capable.
The word carries a negative charge—nobody wants to be called a patronizer.
It comes from the verb patronize, which can mean to support or frequent a business, but more often means to talk down to someone: He's such a patronizer, always explaining things I already know.
