Frilly leg coverings
Pantalets are long underpants with ruffled or lace-trimmed legs, worn by women and girls in the 19th century.
They extended below the skirt hem, making the decorative cuffs visible at the ankle.
The garment reflected Victorian modesty while adding ornamental detail to the silhouette.
