pack carburizing
Group case hardening
Pack carburizing is a heat treatment process where steel parts are packed in a container with carbon-rich material—typically charite or charcoal mixed with an energizer—then heated for hours in a furnace.
Carbon diffuses into the steel surface, creating a hardened case while leaving the core softer and tougher.
The method suits batch processing of small parts but has largely given way to gas and liquid carburizing in modern production.
