case depth
Surface treatment thickness
Case depth is the thickness of the hardened outer layer on a metal part that has undergone case hardening—a heat treatment that makes the surface harder while leaving the core softer and more ductile.
Measured in millimeters or thousandths of an inch, case depth determines wear resistance and is critical in gears, bearings, and other components subject to surface stress.
