overteaching

Too much explaining

Overteaching is explaining or instructing beyond what's needed, often to the point of diminishing returns.

A teacher who overteaches a simple concept buries it under unnecessary elaboration.

The term also applies to drilling students so intensely that they lose interest or flexibility: He overteaches grammar until students are afraid to write a sentence.
