overfired

Baked too long

Overfired describes ceramics or pottery heated beyond the optimal temperature in a kiln.

Overfired pieces may warp, crack, bloat, or develop unwanted surface effects as glazes run or colors burn out: The mugs came out overfired and misshapen.

The term applies similarly to bricks that have been fired too hot, becoming dense and discolored.
