orchestral suite
Composed movement collection
An orchestral suite is a collection of short pieces performed together as a single work.
Historically, suites gathered stylized dance movements—allemande, courante, sarabande, gigue.
Later composers assembled suites from opera or ballet scores, extracting highlights for concert performance: the Nutcracker Suite, Peer Gynt Suite.
The form allows variety within unity.
