optical brighteners
Laundry glow additives
Optical brighteners are chemical compounds added to detergents, paper, plastics, and textiles to make them appear whiter and brighter.
They work by absorbing ultraviolet light and re-emitting it as visible blue light, counteracting the yellowish tinge that makes materials look dingy.
Also called optical brightening agents or fluorescent whitening agents.
