operating temperature

Functional thermal range

Operating temperature is the range of temperatures within which a device, material, or system functions correctly and safely.

Electronics, machinery, and chemicals all have specified operating temperatures: The phone's operating temperature is 32° to 95°F.

Outside this range, performance degrades or damage occurs.

Storage temperature, a related specification, covers conditions when the item isn't in use.
