op-ed writing
Newspaper opinion pieces
Op-ed writing is opinion journalism that appears opposite a newspaper's editorial page—hence the name.
Unlike news reporting, op-eds present the author's personal argument or perspective on current events, policy, or culture.
The form has expanded beyond print to describe any short persuasive essay by an outside contributor: She pitched an op-ed to the Times about climate policy.
