one-eyed jacks
Monocular card royalty
One-eyed jacks are the jacks of spades and hearts in a standard deck of playing cards, shown in profile so only one eye is visible.
The phrase appears most often in poker, where house rules may designate one-eyed jacks as wild cards: Deuces and one-eyed jacks are wild.
The term has become shorthand for any designated wild card variant.
