odd couple
Mismatched duo together
An odd couple is two people who seem mismatched but form a partnership or friendship anyway—different in temperament, habits, or background yet somehow compatible.
The phrase comes from Neil Simon's 1965 play about fastidious Felix and slovenly Oscar sharing an apartment: My sister and her roommate are such an odd couple—she's a neat freak and he's a total slob.
