nose picking
Digital nasal extraction
Nose picking is the act of inserting a finger into the nostril to extract mucus or other debris.
The habit is nearly universal but socially discouraged in public: She caught him nose picking at the stoplight.
Children are routinely admonished to stop, though adults do it too when they think no one is watching.
