nonparallel

Lines that converge

Nonparallel describes lines, surfaces, or paths that don't run in the same direction—they either intersect or diverge.

In grammar, nonparallel structure refers to sentence elements that should match in form but don't: She likes hiking, swimming, and to bike mixes gerunds with an infinitive.

The grammatical sense appears most often in writing instruction and editing.
