non-printing
Hidden from output
Non-printing describes characters or elements that don't appear in printed or displayed output.
In word processing and typesetting, non-printing characters include spaces, tabs, paragraph marks, and page breaks—invisible markers that control formatting without showing on the page: Toggle non-printing characters to see where the extra spacing comes from.
The term also applies to printers or print functions that are inactive or malfunctioning.
