Unprintable describes words or content too offensive, obscene, or profane to put in print: His response was unprintable in a family newspaper.
The term dates from when newspapers and publishers had stricter standards about vulgar language.
It now often carries a winking quality, acknowledging that most things are printable somewhere: She muttered something unprintable under her breath.
