nightshirts
Long sleeping garments
Nightshirts are loose, shirt-like garments worn for sleeping, typically reaching to the knees or below.
Before pajamas became common in the twentieth century, nightshirts were the standard sleepwear for men and boys.
They remain in use, often in lighter fabrics for warm weather: He padded to the kitchen in his nightshirt.
