night creature

After-dark animal

A night creature is any animal or being active primarily after dark.

The term applies literally to nocturnal animals like owls and bats, but more often describes supernatural beings—vampires, werewolves, demons—that emerge when darkness falls.

It can also characterize people who prefer late hours: He's always been a night creature, rarely awake before noon.
