news embargo
Media release ban
A news embargo is an agreement—usually between journalists and a source—to withhold information until a specified time.
Organizations release reports, studies, or announcements early to give reporters time to prepare coverage, with the understanding that nothing will be published before the embargo lifts: The press release came with a news embargo until midnight.
Breaking an embargo damages trust and can result in being cut off from future early access.
