naked ape
Hairless primate species
Naked ape is a term for human beings, emphasizing our biological nature as primates who lack the body hair of our closest relatives.
The phrase gained currency from Desmond Morris's 1967 book *The Naked Ape*, which examined human behavior through the lens of zoology.
It's often used to deflate human pretensions: Strip away civilization and we're still just naked apes.
