n-type

Negative carrier semiconductor

N-type describes semiconductor material that has been doped to create an excess of negative charge carriers (electrons).

The n stands for negative.

N-type silicon, combined with p-type (positive) silicon, forms the basis of diodes, transistors, and solar cells: The n-type layer donates electrons to the p-type layer at the junction.
