musical guests
Concert visitors performing
Musical guests are performers invited to appear on a show—typically a late-night talk show or variety program—to play a song or two.
The term distinguishes them from the host and interview guests: Tonight's musical guest is Beyoncé.
Saturday Night Live has featured a musical guest alongside a host since its inception.
The role offers artists promotional exposure while giving shows cultural currency.
