museum installation
Curated display artwork
A museum installation is an artwork created for a specific gallery space, often immersive or site-specific, incorporating elements like sculpture, video, sound, or found objects.
Unlike traditional paintings or sculptures, installations transform the space itself into part of the experience: The artist's installation filled three rooms with suspended mirrors and ambient sound.
The term also covers temporary exhibits or arrangements within museums more broadly.
