Shared vehicle facilities
A motor pool is a fleet of vehicles maintained by an organization—typically military, government, or corporate—for shared use by personnel.
Rather than assigning vehicles to individuals, a motor pool centralizes them for checkout as needed: He signed out a Jeep from the motor pool.
The term originated in military usage but applies to any institutional vehicle fleet.
