moral resistance
Standing on principle
Moral resistance is opposition to something on ethical grounds—refusing to comply with or accept practices, policies, or systems one considers wrong.
The term often appears in discussions of conscience and civil disobedience: Her moral resistance to the war led her to protest.
It can be passive (refusing to participate) or active (working to change what one opposes).
