monobasic
Single replaceable hydrogen
Monobasic describes an acid that has only one hydrogen atom capable of being replaced by a metal or other positive ion in a chemical reaction.
Hydrochloric acid is monobasic because it yields one hydrogen ion per molecule.
The term appears in chemistry contexts: monobasic sodium phosphate, a monobasic acid.
