modern pop
Today's chart music
Modern pop is mainstream popular music from roughly the 1980s onward, characterized by electronic production, synthesizers, and polished studio techniques.
The term distinguishes contemporary pop from earlier eras—distinguishing Taylor Swift from the Beatles, or Dua Lipa from Motown.
Their sound blends modern pop with R&B influences.
The boundaries shift as decades pass; what counts as "modern" keeps moving forward.
