modern novels
Today's long narratives
Modern novels are works of long-form fiction from roughly the 20th century onward, distinguished from earlier novels by experimental techniques, psychological depth, and departure from traditional narrative structures.
The term sometimes refers specifically to the modernist period (early-to-mid 20th century) but more loosely means contemporary or recent fiction: I prefer modern novels to Victorian ones.
