misprogramming

Writing flawed instructions

Misprogramming is programming something incorrectly—writing flawed code, entering wrong instructions, or configuring a system improperly.

The term applies to computers, devices, or anything that accepts programmed instructions: A misprogramming in the thermostat kept the heat running all summer.

It can also describe faulty mental conditioning: Years of misprogramming had convinced her she wasn't good enough.
