military council
Armed forces leadership
A military council is a governing body composed of military officers who have seized political power, typically following a coup.
The term often carries negative connotations of illegitimate rule: The military council suspended the constitution and imposed curfews.
It may also refer more neutrally to advisory bodies within armed forces that deliberate on strategic matters.
